Rosacea is a common condition affecting many people with various skin types. However, this condition can cause you to feel embarrassed by your skin’s appearance. Luckily, with help from your dermatologist, you can manage your rosacea and control the way you look. Find out more about managing rosacea with your cosmetic dermatologist, Dr. Jacqueline Silkey at Silkey Skin MD in Kaysville, UT.

What is rosacea?
Rosacea is a skin condition which causes the blood vessels to enlarge, producing a flushed appearance in the facial region. Rosacea occurs most often in fair-skinned individuals and is a common issue. Though doctors do not fully understand the cause of rosacea, they can successfully treat its symptoms. There are four main types of rosacea. This condition may cause permanent redness in the center of the face, such as on the nose.

Do I have rosacea?
Though a flushed appearance is the most obvious sign of rosacea, there are other, more subtle symptoms. Some common signs of rosacea include:

  • facial redness
  • eye problems like dryness or irritation
  • enlarged, bulbous nose
  • swollen red bumps which may contain pus

If you notice one or more of these symptoms remain persistent and does not go away on its own, you should contact your dermatologist to talk about diagnosis and treatment options.

What causes rosacea?
Some common triggers which can cause rosacea flare-ups often include:

  • outside temperature
  • cosmetics
  • certain types of medications
  • exercise
  • hot drinks
  • spicy foods
  • alcohol
  • emotions
  • sun exposure or heavy wind

Women are more prone to rosacea than men, but both genders experience this condition. Rosacea occurs more in fair-skinned individuals with Northern European ancestry. Those over the age of 30, who smoke, or who have a family history of rosacea are more at risk to develop this condition.

Managing Rosacea in Kaysville, UT
Treating rosacea focuses on controlling its symptoms and usually uses a customized skin care routine coupled with prescription treatments. Your doctor may recommend a topical or oral prescription medication to control symptoms. In addition to your doctor’s recommended medications, avoiding triggers, a careful skin care routine, and the committed use of sun protection and sun block daily can help reduce the symptoms of rosacea.

BotoxBotox is arguably one of the most famous anti-aging treatments in the world. From international A-list celebrities to college students looking to pre-empt the early signs of aging, Botox has become a household name. But what many people don't know is that Botox has a number of additional benefits and medical applications beyond temporarily helping to minimize fine lines and wrinkles. Our cosmetic dermatologist, Dr. Jacqueline Silkey, offers Botox and a range of non-invasive and surgical cosmetic and skincare services in Kaysville, UT.

Botox and Cosmetic Dermatology and Skincare in Kaysville, UT

Botox has become so popular that it can be difficult to spot a well-known figure or even someone in your day to day life that hasn't at least tried it once for fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and mouth. A typical Botox treatment for cosmetic issues like crow's feet or frown lines can last from three to six months. Many people find that lines are less pronounced and defined between treatments.

When Should You Consider Botox

The aging process affects everyone differently, and your skin type is unique and has specific needs, therefore there is no such thing as a "one size fits all" beauty or cosmetic skincare regiment. The best approach is to work with a dermatologist to design a plan that works best for you, and to adapt it as needed when your skin's needs change. Some people begin getting Botox treatments as early as their 20s as a preventive step, while others may wait a bit longer when the signs of aging are more pronounced.

Tags: Laser Hair Removal

Would you like to say goodbye to the drudgery of shaving, waxing, or using messy creams to remove unwanted body hair? Would you like laser hair removalto know your skin is being treated by a fully-qualified cosmetic dermatologist who has your overall systemic health in mind? Then, investigate a wonderful aesthetic service called laser hair removal. Provided by Dr. Jacqueline Silkey in her Kaysville, UT, office, laser hair removal safely achieves a soft smooth look to areas of unwanted hair with no pain and no downtime.

How it works

After reviewing your medical history and visually examining your skin, Dr. Silkey applies a special numbing cream to the areas you wish treated. Typically, people want hair removed from their upper lips, backs, chest, bikini lines, underarms, and legs.

After the cream has worked for about 30 minutes, doctor, patient, and any assistants don protective eye wear, and the treatment begins. The Soprano ICE cool touch laser treats each hair follicle individually, delivering a focused beam of light which inactivates, or kills, the follicle.

As the doctor works through the various areas, patients rest comfortably. The size of the treated area determines how long the service takes. Afterwards, the skin may feel somewhat sensitive and look puffy and red, just as if you had a very mild sunburn.

Afterwards, patients resume their normal activities, and they enjoy noticeably less hair. It is highly recommended to stay away from tanning and sun exposure and to use sunscreen to avoid further skin irritation.

In all, most laser hair removal patients in Kaysville need two to six treatments, says the American Academy of Dermatology. While there may be some very gradual regrowth of fine hair, the treated areas generally stay hair-free for several months to years.

Is it safe?

Because your procedure will be performed by Dr. Silkey personally, you can count on an infection- and blister-free experience. Also, people of all skin tones and hair color can benefit from laser hair removal because of the many advancements in laser technology.

This simple cosmetic injectable could give you the more youthful radiance you’ve been looking for.botox

Getting younger-looking skin doesn’t have to be that difficult. If you hate that every time you smile all you see is crow’s feet around your eyes and laugh lines around your mouth, then you’re in luck. Our Kaysville, UT, cosmetic dermatologist, Dr. Jacqueline Silkey, has a simple solution for combating these fine lines and wrinkles.

If you’ve ever thought to yourself that you would love to treat facial wrinkles but worry about undergoing extensive cosmetic surgery just to discover that you aren’t actually happy with your results, then it’s time to turn your attention to Botox. This simple cosmetic injectable is able to temporarily reduce and even eliminate the appearance of certain facial lines and wrinkles.

Botox is designed to treat wrinkles that appear as a result of facial expressions. For example, take a second to smile in the mirror. Do you see the lines and wrinkles that suddenly appear? Maybe it’s those pesky crow’s feet around your eyes, those visible laugh lines giving you away or those years of a furled brow leaving you with deep forehead wrinkles. Whatever the case might be these are the wrinkles that can be targeted with Botox injection.

Now, most people hear the word “injections” and immediately dismiss the idea of ever getting Botox. Before you say “no”, it’s important to realize that these injections aren’t like the needles you get for the flu shot or that you remember from your childhood. Botox needles are so much thinner and far less intimidating. Most patients say they feel nothing more than a slight pinch and it only lasts a couple seconds. If the idea still makes you squeamish then talk to our Kaysville cosmetic dermatologist about applying a topical numbing gel to the area prior to administering Botox.

Another great benefit to choosing Botox is that the treatment itself only takes a couple of minutes (it will take a bit longer if you require numbing gel, since it takes some time to kick in) and you can go right back to your daily activities. Many patients even choose to get Botox during their lunch break—it’s that fast.

Results won’t be instant but they will appear over the course of three or four days. You’ll also enjoy these gorgeous results for up to six months. Of course, if you decide you love your new look you can just continue to get follow-up injections to maintain results for longer. If you aren’t fully satisfied with the results, no problem! Botox results will fade over six months.

Do you have questions about getting Botox? Want to find out if you are the perfect candidate for treatment? Then turn to SilkeySkinMD in Kaysville, UT, today to answer your questions and give your skin the care and pampering it deserves.

Find out if our laser dermatology could improve the look and feel of your skin.hyperpigmentation

We all know that as much as we wished our skin would remain youthful and healthy, there are a variety of factors that affect the look and even tone of your skin. Everything from years of basking in the sun to skipping the sunscreen to pollution can take its toll on your skin. Luckily, our Kaysville, UT, cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Jacqueline Silkey is here to tell you how laser pigmentation removal could help.

What is laser pigmentation removal?

This special laser directs energy waves to the skin where pigmented cells are quickly heated up and destroyed with the laser without affecting the healthy skin around it. This non-invasive cosmetic treatment can quickly and effectively reduce and even completely eliminate pigmentations in the skin.

What skin problems can this laser treatment treat?

You may want to consider laser pigmentation removal if you are looking to get rid of any of these conditions:

  • Freckles
  • Age spots
  • Sun spots
  • Hyperpigmentation (uneven skin tone; brown patches)
  • Birthmarks

Just about any part of the face or body can be treated with this simple, painless skin treatment.

What goes into getting laser pigmentation treatment in Kaysville, UT?

Your cosmetic dermatologists will choose the proper laser to use based on the type of pigmentation you want to treat. From there we will direct the laser over the skin. While the laser shouldn’t be painful you may notice some light burning or stinging.

Again, depending on the type of pigmentation and the severity of the skin condition, we will determine how many treatment sessions you will need. Some patients may be able to get the results they want in just one session while those with deeper pigmentations may require multiple treatment sessions.

What makes the procedure a popular option for many people looking to improve the overall look of their skin is that there a little to no recovery period with minimal side effects.

Do you have questions about laser pigmentation treatment? Are you interested in scheduling a consultation to find out how we can give you the beautiful skin you want? Then turn to your cosmetic dermatologists at SilkeySkinMD in Kaysville, UT.
